The 13 litre FH engine is well above fleet average and on light running has been touching 10mpg*
The FH13-500 taken in to the fleet of H&R Carriers last year is setting a new benchmark for low fuel consumption and reliability for the Buckfastleigh-based specialist international fridge operator.
Hauling fresh organic produce out of the westcountry, for award-winning Riverford Organic Vegetables who proudly declare “We never air freight”, the H&R fleet have tough terrain to climb every day so fuel and reliability are key to their success.
H&R Carriers owner Charles Reade is delighted with the reliability of the new FH. He said, “We used to be an all-DAF fleet. The build quality of the new FH is superb. Volvo are where DAF used to be a few years ago on reliability.”
The FH joins a fleet of 14 trucks and 18 trailers operating a 50/50 split between domestic and european operations. A fifth wheel height of 1150mm was needed for Charles to achieve the required running height of under 4.0 metres.
Commenting on the fuel and AdBlue consumption, Charles said, “Fuel is variable because that’s the nature of our work, but the FH is well above the fleet average and on light running it has been touching 10mpg. The adBlue usage is impressive too, we get a week between fills on our DAFs and nearly a fortnight on this new FH-500.”
