Volvo FMX rear air suspension

Rear air suspension.

The rear air suspension is specifically developed for construction assignments. It makes it possible to adjust the axle load distribution. It gives minimum vibrations to the truck, contributing to higher average speed without jeopardising the truck.

Volvo FMX new driven front axle

All-wheel drive.

If you want to be sure to get out of the dirt, the 4x4 or 6x6 configuration is the choice. Together with the 8x6 with driven front axle that is now a standard offer from Volvo.

The new driven front axle has the same position as the non-driven axle, 100 mm further forward, which means that the approach angle is really practical and useful.

Volvo FMX steerable multi-axles

Steerable multi-axles.

Need to transport heavy loads on winding trails? That's when steerable mult-axles may be the solution. The 8x4 tridem with single front axle and steerable tag axle has an astonishing small turning circle. The 8x4 with dual front axles is very suitable with a crane or concrete mixer superstructure.

Flexible chassis layout

Battery box (BBOX-L)
It is moved forward 300 mm compared with previous design. On tractors this offers 100–120 litres more fuel capacity.

Battery box (BBOX-EF)
Placed in the rear between the chassis frames is an option on tractors.

APM
The Air Production Modulator (APM) is on tractors placed between the chassis frames in order to create more space for chassis-mounted equipment such as fuel tanks.

Free frame space
The chassis packaging can be moved rearwards to create space for crane legs or other equipment. (FAA10; approx. 500 mm), (FAA20; approx. 600 mm).

Frame body builder hole row
The upper hole-row is reserved for the body builder. All brackets in upper hole-row have an offset and an 8 mm spacer. No rivets are used in the upper hole-row.

Crane preparation
Crane plates on the chassis can be factory mounted.

Rear air suspension and short rear end
The rear overhang can be shorter thanks to a redesigned forward-mounted stabiliser bar. This is a benefit for construction applications and improves the asphalt-layer interface and swapbody applications.
