Transportation is probably among last bastions of change in India? While India today has access to global products in communication, person vehicles and household items, we are still short of achieving optimum mobility in terms of public transport and material transport - a necessity especially considering the size of our country.

The need to step up the efficiencies and performance in this sector is becoming even more acute with our growing economy and the increased cingestions in our cities and highways. Until this sector matures there is little merit to count the volumes - for with every new commercial vehicle we are stressing our limited resources. The question instead is - is the truck & bus of today able to move more goods than we did last year? The answer does not lie merely in the products but also in the product concepts, the transport ystem and the way we manage the logistics.

To ensure a sustainable future, which is about increased quality of life , the progress of this industry could be measured, on 4 key pillars -

• Productivity, transport economy & performance - The ability to use fewer vehicles for the same job
• De-congestion of our cities
• Environmental impact
• Safety on the road

Fortunately, there is an increased rise in the debate and discussion n these aspects. This must continue and we should have increased nstances to share our experiences, locally and globally, ith all stakeholders - the industry, the policy makers, the opinion akers, the operators, the drivers and of course the public too.

In this Transport Seminar, we aim to bring together opinions and experiences from India & Europe on some exemplary practices that an fuel our drive to progress in transport efficiency. The seminar ims to be a mix of views, opinions, discussions and exhibits.
