April 18, 2012 – Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, Indonesia: After five months of tough and harsh working environment trial at coal mine of BUMA, the largest coal operator in east Kalimantan, the newest member of Volvo Trucks line up in Indonesia the Volvo FMX 10x4 have proved itself being a configuration for higher productivity combined with the core values of Volvo Trucks, such as quality and safety.

  • Volvo Trucks have successfully carried out trial for Volvo FMX 10x4 in Indonesia.
  • Indonesia will be the first the first market in Asia to launch a mining truck with a 10x4 configuration.
  • The new Volvo FMX 10x4 will be able to carry up to 45 tonnes of load, which is an increase of 7.8 tonnes compared to a conventional 8x4 configuration.

April 18, 2012 – Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, Indonesia: After five months of tough and harsh working environment trial at coal mine of BUMA, the largest coal operator in east Kalimantan, the newest member of Volvo Trucks line up in Indonesia the Volvo FMX 10x4 have proved itself being a configuration for higher productivity combined with the core values of Volvo Trucks, such as quality and safety.

The new FMX model will be more powerful, and yet more environmentally-friendly and more productive than ever before. The 480 hp 11 litre engine combined with the 10x4 configuration provides appropriate torque combined with optimal uptime, fuel efficiency and driver safety.

“Volvo FMX 10x4 is built and designed exclusively for the extreme conditions of operation related to mining in Indonesia. I am sure our customers here in Indonesia will be very satisfied with the increased productivity that we now can offer with one more axle on the Volvo FMX” said Pierre Jean Verge-Salamon, Managing Director of Volvo Trucks Indonesia.

The Volvo FMX is designed and developed specifically for demanding mining applications and related sectors, e.g. agriculture and construction industries. The Volvo FMX engine range varies from 11- litre to 13-litre with power output from 330 to 480 hp and with the best torque in the industry at 2400 Nm combined with massive braking power, 375 kW at 2300 rpm, which is provided by Volvo Engine Brake Plus (VEB+).

Higher air intake position on the day cab is available as an option that optimizes the quality of the air to the engine, while also improving visibility when reversing.

Central towing device offers a robust and reliable tool for towing or shunting which can handle up to 25 tonnes. The lower front has been extended 165 mm.

New anti-slip footstep integrated in the skid plate provides easy and convenient access to the windscreen for cleaning. An extra foldable extension step and/or a front grab handle at the upper grill are optional for even easier access.

Heavy-duty engine protection helps protect vital components.

A new reinforced rear-axle installation with increased thicker material in heart bracket, cross member and V-stay will offer operators longer lifetime and lower maintenance cost.

Besides the 10x4 configuration Volvo FMX is also available as 6x4 and 8x4.
