Volvo Trucks’ December deliveries increased 27% year-on-year to 11,882 trucks. For the full year 2011, deliveries rose 53% to 115,346 trucks.
The Volvo Group's new truck organisation will sharpen the focus of its truck business by breaking down the marketing and sales responsibility for the Group's truck brands into three geographic areas. However, brands and product strategies will still be managed at a global level. At the beginning of 2012, Claes Nilsson, formerly President Europe Division, took over responsibility for the Group's largest truck brand, Volvo Trucks.
The SARTRE project, Safe Road Trains for the Environment has successfully completed the first test demonstrations of a multiple vehicle platoon. The test fleet included a lead truck followed by three cars driven entirely autonomously at speeds of up to 90 km/h – with no more than 6 metres gap between the vehicles.
