Recycled Plastic in Truck Components

Volvo Trucks uses components made from recycled plastic water bottles in all seven of its VN-model trucks sold in North America – once again taking the lead in the heavy-duty truck industry when it comes to sustainable business practices.

The brackets for the trucks’ side air deflection systems, which contain up to 60 percent post-consumer recycled content, are made from resins produced by SABIC Innovative Plastics. It’s the first time “up-cycled materials” – up-cycling is the process of making a higher-quality product from a useless one – have been used in a heavy-duty truck in North America. Other SABIC resins are used to make fenders, grilles and forward lighting for Volvo trucks sold in North America.
