Our core values

The core values of Quality and Safety have been fundamental to Volvo ever since the company was founded in 1927. At the beginning of the 1970s, Volvo extended its safety philosophy to include not only personal safety but also those aspects affecting human health and the surrounding environment. As a result, Environment is now the third of our core values.

Safety: In our view, safety is about people, about all of us, about you. As our founders put it, “An automobile carries, and is driven by, people. Safety is and must be the basic principle in all design work”.

Environmental care: Our environmental commitment doesn’t just stay on the desk. We always look at the full life cycle of a product, starting with materials extraction and moving to better, more sustainable methods of manufacturing, running, servicing, and recycling.

Quality: A truck must be able to handle important transport assignments 24 hours a day. It has to be reliable: reliability is the measure of quality in trucks. And reliability equals uptime.
