Frequently asked questions

Where will I work?

In order to gain a place on the Apprenticeship programme, you must be sponsored by a Volvo dealership local to your home. Here, you will be a full time employee of the dealer from day one and become part of the technical/aftersales team while you train.

Will I be a paid employee at the dealership?

Yes. All apprentices who are successful in gaining a position at a Volvo dealership will be contracted and paid as a full time employee with that dealer.

Where do I complete my training?

You will carry out your training through fifteen two-week periods at the bespoke Volvo Training Academy, based at Stephenson College in Coalville, Leicestershire. The centre is equipped with the latest Volvo vehicles and you will have use of the most up to date equipment and tools. You will also be trained by Volvo time served master technicians, with the latest Volvo knowledge.

What qualifications do I achieve?

On completion you will have attained the following qualifications:

Technician - IMI L3 Diploma in Heavy Vehicle Principles VRQ (technical certificate) & L3 Heavy Vehicle Competence QCF (practical competence)

Parts - IMI L3 Diploma in Vehicle Parts Principles VRQ (technical certificate) & L3 Diploma in Vehicle Parts Competence QCF (practical competence)

Both the above qualifications are recognised and highly valued throughout the motor industry.

Does my training stop once I reach IMI Level 3?

No, it doesn't. At Volvo you will be encouraged to increase your knowledge with future technical training courses, exciting team building weekends and even the option for the right apprentice to study for Higher education. The opportunities within a global organisation like Volvo are endless. For the right, focused individuals we can offer a clear career path to Frontline Technician/Parts Supervisor that may even lead to product or training specialist at Volvo…

How much will the training cost me?

The training is completely free of charge and paid for by Volvo. The only cost to you is your dedication and commitment to succeed.

Are there other benefits to me?

  • Full time employment at an authorised dealer
  • Block release tuition
  • An international recognised accreditation
  • Fully paid for training course, all qualification fees and accommodation.
  • Team building and special events

Where will I stay?

During your block release, you will stay in hand-picked accommodation,  near to the Training Centre. Transport to and from the Training Centre will also be provided if required. The cost of the accommodation will be met by your sponsorship dealer.
