The groundbreaking Volvo Dynamic Steering drastically reduces the effort it takes to steer, making the job easier and safer while minimising the strain on your muscles. It’s perfect for construction trucks, where rough terrains, heavy loads and challenging manoeuvring at low speeds are part and parcel of the job. Now Volvo Dynamic Steering is also available for dual front axles (8×2, 8×4 and 10×4).

Evens out the road at high speed
At high speeds it cancels out disturbances and swallows potholes on the road.

More power at low speed
At low speeds you get more steering power – up to 85% additional steering force. And the steering wheel automatically returns to neutral.
Reversing is performed more easily, because the steering wheel will return to neutral, stay there and keep you on a straight backward track.
Less sensitive to crosswinds
Volvo Dynamic Steering reduces the disturbance caused by crosswinds which makes driving more comfortable.
Stability on banked roads
Volvo Dynamic Steering improves course stability when driving on banked roads.
Perfect for the gravel pit
The new steering is especially suitable for trucks with multiple rear axles.
How it works
|We have fitted an electrical motor on the steering gear. The motor is controlled – 2,000 times per second – via the truck’s electronic control units and produce torque overlay. The torque is progressive and gives more power to the steering when needed, obtaining a predetermined steering feel, independent of load and tyres. This results in a totally different driving experience – reassuringly predictable.
This is how we improved handling and driving comfort.
|The Volvo Dynamic Steering is probably the greatest innovation since servo steering. But don't forget all other improvements we've made to the suspension, making Volvo FMX more like a car to handle.
The cab suspension is more stable and the engine suspension is modified to decrease noise and vibrations. The driving comfort was good – it’s now even better.
New and re-positioned stabilisers on the rear suspension give less static rolling and prevent chassis movements from transmitting onto the cab. It doesn’t only make the driving more comfortable, it also prevents the chassis from torsional forces.
It follows you like a faithful dog.
Improved geometry of the front leaf and air suspension and a new steering gear position make the truck very course-stable.
