Volvo Trucks now introducing a more sustainable solution for urban transport needs.5/8/18
Volvo Trucks now shows a more sustainable solution to the urban transport needs, the new Volvo FL Electric.
The Volvo FL Electric will be used for tasks like daily deliveries to shops and refuse collection in cities. It enables transports without tailpipe emissions.
“We believe that the technology today is mature when it comes to performance, range and weight in these type of applications in city use”, says Volvo Trucks president Claes Nilsson.
Electromobility will pave the way for new solutions in urban planning and transports. The Volvo FL Electric is a two axle 16 tonne heavy duty truck. It has a fully electric driveline and engine storage system. The driveline consists of an electrical motor with 185 kW of peak power and 130 kW continuous power and gives an operational range of up to 300 km.
“The size of the driveline is not much larger than a combustion engine in a passenger car. We can specify the battery capacity to fit the customer’s needs,” explains Jonas Odermalm, Head of Strategy Volvo FL and Volvo FE.
Volvo Trucks philosophy is to only fit as much battery capacity as required for the transport assignment – this keeps down costs, optimises payload and improves sustainability.
The development of the new Volvo FL Electric has been influenced by the all-electric Volvo Electricity buses and 4,000 electrified Volvo Buses delivered globally. The first Volvo FL Electrics will be delivered to customers in 2019.
