Volvo FL chassis

Fitted for a life in the urban environment.

The chassis of the Volvo FL has been constructed for one purpose only: flexibility. When met with the difficulties and demands of city distribution assignments, with heavy loads and tight curves and prolonged use, it rises to the challenge, every time. Especially so, if you’ve specified it even further.

Maintenance-free front axles.

A range of maintenance-free front axles are available – all depending on the load requirements. For trucks with a gross weight of 12–16 tonnes the max load is between 4.5 and 5.8 tonnes while the 18-tonner has a max axle load of 6.3 to 7.1 tonnes.

Choice of suspension.

Choice of suspension.

Depending on the axle load, there are different choices of suspension to both front and rear axles: air or leaf suspension or a combination of the two.

Volvo FL wheel sizes

Wheel sizes.

There are two different wheel sizes for the Volvo FL range. For the truck with a gross vehicle weight between 12 and 16 tonnes, the wheels are 19.5" while the wheels for the heavier trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 18 tonnes is 22.5”.

Fast braking response

Fast and safe braking response.

The Volvo FL has pneumatic brakes with ventilated discs at both front and rear. The EBS (Electronically controlled Brake System) disc-brake system provides both faster and safer braking response and promotes less brake wear. The system includes features such as anti-locking brakes (ABS), a differential lock and Brake Blending.

Electronically Controlled Suspension

Easy, fast loading.

The Electronically Controlled Suspension (ECS) can be used to control the air suspension levelling, via switches on the dashboard or a control box, to find the right level for the loading platform.
