All the braking power you need

You have to be able to rely on your truck’s brakes. It’s never worth risking an accident. Reliable brakes not only provide added safety, they also allow you to manoeuvre more precisely and rely on the truck stopping exactly when you want.

Disc brakes with leaf springs
If you engage in heavy construction operations, you’ll have been forced for a long time to choose between disc brakes and leaf springs. Not any more. The Volvo FMX is available with a choice of two bogies, allowing you to benefit from disc brakes even when you’re down in the quarry – and even in combination with leaf springs. On the other hand, if you specify disc brakes with air suspension, EBS is included with the option of ESP (Electronic Stability Program), which is now also available on some rigids.
Of course, you still have the option of tried and tested drum brakes with ABS (Anti-lock Braking System). In really difficult terrain, they offer hard-to-beat operating reliability.

Powerful auxiliary brakes
Added to all this is Volvo’s enormously powerful auxiliary brakes, topped by VEB+. There are retarders for all the transmissions. They all reduce the burden on the wheel brakes so you can always feel safe, no matter how quickly you need to brake.
