How it works – Volvo FM safety cameras

Whether its city streets, highways or construction sites, good visibility is vital for truck drivers. The Volvo FM can be equipped with up to eight cameras, with up to four views on display at any one time, ensuring a high degree of visibility in any situation.

  • A passenger corner camera is located at the foot of the passenger side mirror. It is automatically triggered by the turning indicator and projected onto the driver’s side display screen. However, it can also be activated manually when needed. This is particularly beneficial when turning towards the passenger side at intersections as it will help the driver see cyclists, pedestrians or motorists. It can also be useful when changing lanes on the passenger side, when navigating through construction sites or driving on narrow roads.
  • A reverse camera provides a comprehensive view behind the truck. When the reverse gear is engaged, the camera is automatically triggered and projected onto the driver’s display screen.
  • Six additional cameras can be installed anywhere on the truck, to meet the unique demands of different routes, situations, drivers and driving conditions. The cameras are provided with the Volvo FM if specified. Pre-routed cables and a digital camera switch are mounted from the cab down to the chassis, making it easy to install and connect the cameras without long and expensive rebuilds.
  • The intuitive side display can be connected to all eight cameras and provide either a single full-screen view from one camera, or multiple split screen views from two or four cameras. Changing views is as simple as touch and swipe.
