Cutting emissions
With better fuel efficiency, you get lower CO₂ emissions. You can also go further when you switch from conventional diesel fuel – either by choosing a gas-powered engine or a diesel or gas-powered engine using renewable fuels.
Gas-powered engines
Matching the power and torque of our diesel engines, our gas-powered engines are a great option to lower emissions when the fueling infrastructure is in place. From the advanced13-liter engine powered by LNG or bio-LNG for heavy-duty assignments to the 9-liter CNG-powered engine when efficiency and low noise are key needs.
Potential CO₂ reductions:
Up to 20% reduction with LNG, 80-100% with bio-LNG, 10% with CNG, and 70-100% with bio-CNG
Diesel engines
For many customers, a diesel driveline remains the most viable choice. Combining power, torque, and efficiency, our engine range covers your needs. From 17- and 13-liter engines for heavy-duty performance to 8- and 5-liter engines for medium-duty applications.

30-70% with biodiesel, 30-90% with HVO

17-liter diesel
The 17-liter diesel engine is available with either 600 hp, 700 hp, or 780 hp output levels making the Volvo FH16 Aero and the Volvo FH16 the most powerful Volvo trucks. The top of the range model offers up to 3800 Nm of torque, which facilitates pulling extreme loads efficiently with excellent control over your vehicle combination.

The powerful and efficient 13-liter diesel engine delivers up to 560 hp and a torque of 2900 Nm. For high load capacity and productivity with good fuel economy –and the flexibility to switch to lower-emission biodiesel and HVO.
