Right from its very beginning in 1927, Volvo has been a brand for people who care about the world we live in and the people around us. When designing our trucks, this human centric approach is our bright guiding star.
"The contrasts found in the Scandinavian landscape are a fantastic source of inspiration. Shifting seasons from warm summers to freezing winters, soft sand, hard rocks, deep forests, silent snow, and icy lakes. There are contrasts everywhere and this is what we bring to the design of our trucks"
Jonathan Disley, Design Director Volvo Trucks
Clean lines, simplicity, light colors and controlled surfaces. We use traditional Scandinavian design elements and combine them with striking details to create the distinctive Volvo look. And inside the cab, we use the finest natural materials and light colors, and ensure that plenty of natural light pours in.
Functionality and purpose are just as important as finding the most beautiful and distinctive forms. We believe that best designs improve safety, save fuel and make life easier and more comfortable for the driver
Volvo is Latin for "I roll". And our trucks do just that, day after day, year after year, all over the world. We choose the most durable, sustainable and modern materials that can withstand both extreme heat and extreme cold, and the absolute toughest of conditions.
"At Volvo Trucks, we always strive to simplify design. We ask ourselves, 'how can we scale this design back and make it even clearer and more defined?"
Carina Byström, Chief Designer Interior
“Innovation should look unique and like something you have never seen before, but still familiar, like a pleasant surprise.”
Ismail Ovacik, Chief Designer Exterior
When you see one of our trucks, you can tell immediately from its V-shaped headlights that it's a Volvo. Our distinctive headlights symbolize our strong commitment to safety. They are especially important during the cold, long winters up in the north, when the days are short and drivers must navigate many shifts in the dark. The iconic design is inspired by the look and feel of hard ice.
